Diamonds are the eternal symbol of love.
Diamonds are featured in all of our rings.
Their characteristics are determined by the 4 C’s
Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut.
Carat
People often refer to carat as a diamonds size.
However it is a measure of weight.
One carat is the equivalent of 200 milligrams,
and can be divided into 100 ‘points’.
A .75 carat diamond can be called a 75 pointer
It can also be referred to a ¾ carat diamond.
The carat weight of each of our rings is
in brackets after the name of each ring.
The term carat is a derivative of the word carob.
Carob seeds, which are surprisingly uniform in weight
were used as a reference for diamonds in previous times.
One carob seed equates to one carat.
Does a one carat diamond cost the same as a two ½ carats.?
No, a one carat diamond is far rarer and found less often.
Therefore the cost of a diamond does not increase
proportionately to an increase in carat size.
Colour
Diamonds come in the widest variety of colours of any gem material.
However most diamonds are desired for their lack of color.
The closer to colorless a diamond is the more value it has.
This excludes the rare ‘fancy colours’ like reds, blues and greens.
Diamonds are graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow)
Most diamonds purchased today range from D to J color.
D,E,F are the colorless grades, and G,H,I are near colorless.
The diamonds used in our rings are of H color.

Clarity
Diamonds have natural blemishes in their make-up.
These inclusions are created while the diamond is forming in the earth.
They are a disadvantage to the natural beauty of a diamond
as they disrupt the reflection of light from a diamond
Inclusions are ranked on a scale of perfection or clarity.
FL (flawless), then VVS(very very small inclusions),
followed by VS, SI (small inclusions) and I1, I2, I3.
Maliere diamonds are of SI quality
However most inclusions are not visible to the naked eye.
To see the inclusions you must use a magnifying loupe.
.
.
Cut
Most people refer to a diamonds shape as its ‘cut’,
however ‘cut’ refers to the diamonds proportions and finish.
‘Cut’ is the only ‘C’ that man contributes to,
transforming a rough diamond into a polished gem.
The cutter has two objectives, produce the largest size diamond
and achieve the greatest optical beauty. If the diamond is cut to
proper proportions and is finished well, light will hit the top, transfer
from one facet to another and return to the top, reflecting brilliance.
When used to refer to shape there are several options.
Round or brilliant cut
Oval or Emerald cut
Square or Princess cut
Marquise
Pear
Heart
Most of the diamond used in Maliere’s rings are round.
There are a few princess cut and Emerald cut rings though.
