We use diamonds for all kinds of jewelry. The most popular use of diamonds is in diamond rings. This is also, for many people, the first diamond that they purchase.

Diamond rings are traditionally given as engagement rings. They are also becoming more popular in eternity rings and are being used for dress wedding bands and right hand rings. Diamond stud earrings are classically beautiful and have remained popular for many years. If you are buying diamond rings, then there are some criteria that you should be aware of so that you are getting the most for your money.

Not all diamonds are created equal. There are several things to consider when determining the worth of a diamond. The jewelry industry has regulated how diamonds are judged and valued. When you are shopping for diamond rings, you need to keep “The Four C’s” in mind. This will help you pick the right diamond at the right price.

Cut, clarity, carat and color are the qualities that you will be looking for.

Cut- The diamond’s cut refers to its shape and how it has been cut. The more facets that are present, the more brilliant the stone will appear. Facets are the flat facings on the stone’s surface. Some stones are square or rectangle cut and do not have as many facets, but their classic simplicity and clarity can make the diamond as stunning as a multi-faceted brilliant round cut diamond.

Choosing the right cut and shape is purely a personal preference. You will be able to choose between round, emerald, oval, pear, marquise, radiant, princess or heart shaped diamonds.

Clarity- Flawless clarity refers to a diamond that is completely transparent and clear of any cloudiness, discoloration, carbon flecks, cracks, inclusions and faults. Flawless diamonds are very rare and can be one of the most expensive diamonds on the market. Clarity is categorized by flawless, very very slight (VVS), very slight (VS), and slightly included (SI). Slight flaws can help you to identify your diamond when having it sized or repaired.

Carat- Carats refers to the weight of the diamond. Higher quality diamonds might appear smaller, but weigh more than less perfect diamonds and therefore have more carats. Do not confuse carats with size.

Color- The color of a diamond can range from light yellow to completely clear. Completely clear diamonds are extremely rare and you may not even be able to find one. A diamonds color value is usually determined by the amount of yellow detectable in the diamond. However, if the color is pink or blue, it can actually increase the value. Red diamonds are the rarest in the world. Diamonds also occur in green, orange and purple.

When buying diamond rings, consider The Four C’s. Shop around for the most beautiful diamond you can find that is sure to take her breath away.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. If you are in the market for a gemstone, there are a few things that you should know before you buy. You should estimate the quality of the stone to make sure that you are getting what you pay for. There are a few guidelines to go by to make sure that you are not spending too much on a low quality stone.

If a stone is rare, like a diamond, then it will be expensive regardless of its quality. Sometimes certain rocks will be considered gems, and again, can be very expensive if they are a rarity.

Colored gemstone value is usually assessed depending on the color of the stone. Size is also, of course, a major consideration. Larger stones can be quite rare and can cost considerably more than the same weight in smaller stones. Inclusions, flaws or pits can cause the value of a stone to go down. Cloudiness is another factor. Sometimes gemstones are manipulated to increase their value.

One simple method of making a stone more beautiful is to heat it. Jewelers can increase the color and clarity of many stones by heating them up. Aquamarine stones are usually heated to make them more blue than green and to remove yellow undertones. Almost all rubies and sapphires are heated to improve their color and clarity. Diamonds are the exception here. Heating a diamond can actually burn it.

Emeralds just about always have inclusions. Sometimes these tiny flaws are filled with wax or oil by the jeweler to make them appear smoother. Turquoise stones are also commonly waxed or oiled. Sometimes the wax or oil is tinted to bring out a brighter or deeper color in emeralds and turquoise stones.

If you can not afford the gemstone of your dreams, then you might consider synthetic gems. These are man-made gemstones that are identical, physically and chemically, to naturally occurring gemstones. Therefore, they are often referred to as real gemstones. Cubic zirconia is produced to look like a diamond, but it does not retain the same chemical properties as a real diamond. This is why it is called a cubic zirconia as opposed to a synthetic or lab-created diamond. You can save money by selecting lab-created or synthetic stones. You will have beautiful real stones. The only differences are that they were not found in nature, they can be mass produced and they are not as rare as naturally occurring stones.

All kinds of gemstones are used in jewelry manufacturing today. Whether you are buying an imitation stone, such as a cubic zirconia or going all out on perfect diamond rings, you are sure to have a treasure worthy of admiration.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings.

Gold Jewelry Buying Guide

Are you wondering what type of gold you should consider when buying your jewelry? You are not alone. There are so many choices that it can be confusing. In general, you will want to consider how you will use the jewelry before you start narrowing down what type of gold you should go with. Will this be a ring or necklace that you wear every day? Will this be used as a wedding ring or heirloom?

If you will rarely wear this piece, then you may be able to choose a higher quality, or higher karat, gold. Gold is a relatively soft, malleable metal. Twenty-four karat gold is almost pure gold. It is more expensive than lesser karats, but also softer and easier to bend, break and scratch. Higher karats of gold are usually only used in fine jewelry that will be worn carefully and not very often.

When you are purchasing an engagement ring or wedding band, consider that it will be worn everyday. Also, since rings are worn on your hands, they will be banged around and scraped fairly often. Soft gold is not necessarily the best choice if you are interested in the ring keeping its shine. Ten to fourteen karat gold is a much more popular choice when choosing a diamond engagement ring or wedding band. It is very durable and beautiful. Your investment is sure to last a lifetime.

Gold comes in different colors. Yellow gold is traditionally the most popular color and it is also the most abundantly available color. Sometimes gold is bonded with other metals to change the color. White gold is a popular alternative to silver. It does not tarnish or bend as easily as silver and will last a lot longer. Rose gold is also popular and is a metallic pink toned metal. Color altered gold can change over time if it is worn every day, so keep that in mind when selecting the gold that suits your taste and skin tone.

Choosing the gold for your jewelry is a personal decision. There are things such as quality, durability and shine to consider. Price is another factor. Pure gold costs considerably more than lower karats. Lower karats are more durable and less likely to scratch, scar, bend or break. If you choose a higher karat gold, white or rose gold, you should take special care of it. Do not sleep in it or wear it every day. Take it off when you work or clean. These types of gold jewelry can keep their beautiful appearance for years if properly taken care of.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. The promise ring can remind you of a promise that you made to yourself or to another person. Promise rings traditionally have been given as a symbol of fidelity between two people. This is usually a precursor to an engagement ring and has been popular with the younger crowds.

A promise ring can symbolize anything that you want it to. The new trend in promise rings is that it acts as a reminder of a promise to oneself. It can help you to remember that you promised yourself that you would be a non-smoker. It can remind you of a promise to yourself to stay sober. It can also be used to symbolize your promise to put your family first. It can mean whatever you want it to. A ring that you wear everyday can be a powerful motivator for sticking to your guns and doing what is right.

A promise ring can also be given as a token of friendship. Friendship promise rings are usually worn as a right hand ring. A friendship ring acts as a reminder that you are not alone. Promise rings symbolize a deep, lifelong friendship.

Promise rings are also becoming more popular for religious reasons. A boyfriend and girlfriend might exchange promise rings in agreement that they will retain their virginity until marriage. They could be a promise to be true to your faith. They are also used as a promise to raise your children in the church.

Promise rings used to symbolize love are most common. As mentioned, they are most often used as a precursor to engagement. Sometimes young couples simply can not afford the engagement ring of their choice. The promise ring is a less expensive alternative which shows the world your intent to someday be married. Sometimes a promise ring is given as a trial before engagement. This gives the couple some time to seriously consider what it would be like to be married before they commit to the engagement.

If you are giving or receiving a promise ring, make sure you are clear on the meaning. Communicate to the recipient what you intend by giving the promise ring. It can mean anything that the two of you agree on. Whether it be a promise to be friends forever, to someday become engaged, or to stay on the path to sobriety together, a promise ring always symbolizes something. Make sure that yours is beautiful, timeless and well suited to the recipient’s style. The giving of a promise ring is a special event and you will always remember it. Make it memorable. There are a few more things to consider when choosing a precious metal than most people realize. There is yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, platinum and silver to choose from.

First, ask yourself if this is a ring that will be worn every day, such as an engagement ring or wedding band. If so, then you want to make sure that the metal you choose will be strong and resistant to scratches and bending. Price can be a factor as well. Platinum is very popular and has very good points about it, but you will pay more for platinum. Silver may be great for jewelry that is not worn every day, but if you plan on wearing it for years to come, you may consider other metals.

Yellow gold is definitely the long standing most popular precious metal choice for many jewelers and buyers alike. It is easy to work with and strong enough for every day wear. Consider how many karats you want based on how often the ring will be worn. Ten and fourteen karat gold are strongest and most resistant to scratching and bending. They are popular choices for engagement rings and wedding bands. Rings sold in eighteen karat or twenty-four karat gold need to be taken care of to avoid bending and scratching.

Twenty-four karat gold is one hundred percent gold. Lower karat gold is mixed with other metals, such as zinc, copper and silver, to make it stronger. Some rings are gold plated or filled and will look beautiful for a while as long as they are not worn daily. The coatings can become discolored, tarnished and worn down over time, so if you are looking for something other than costume jewelry or special occasion jewelry, you probably want to choose a ring made with at least ten karat gold. White gold and rose gold are very durable, but they can discolor after a few years of wear. They sometimes can, however, be refurbished to restore their original beauty.

Platinum is the most sought after precious metal today. Unmatched in reflective beauty and strength, platinum is becoming as popular as gold. Platinum rings have more weight and durability than gold rings and the color will never turn. Where gold can be mixed with over forty percent of other metals, platinum is at least ninety percent pure. Platinum is very strong and is a great choice for jewelry such as diamond rings. Keep in mind that because of its strength, platinum is harder and more expensive to size.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. Historically, eternity rings have represented the circle of life. They represent an ongoing circle of unending love and devotion. But really, an eternity ring can mean whatever you like.

Eternity rings have become more and more popular with men and women. Some people are even buying eternity rings for themselves. Some are giving them as gifts for several different occasions.

An eternity ring has diamonds or other stones circling the ring. They come in half or full rings. People who prefer larger stones generally go with the half eternity rings. People who want the stones to circle completely around the ring go with a full eternity ring. Smaller stones are generally used for full eternity rings, but advances in jewelry making have enabled skilled jewelers to create eternity rings that fit comfortably, even with larger stones.

If you plan on giving an eternity ring, the meaning behind it can be left up to your imagination. Many people give them as anniversary bands. In this case, the number of stones may represent the number of years that you have been married. The continuous circle can represent the never ending love that you have for each other. The ring can embody the meaning of eternal love and devotion. Eternity rings generally can not be sized and each one is truly a continuous circle that has never been broken. You may choose for your anniversary eternity ring to represent the future that you are going to share together. You can even feel free to throw in a little humor and say that this eternity ring represents how being together has felt like an eternity! Whatever meaning you choose, make it personal. The meaning will have more of an impact if it suits your personality and really embodies the meaning of your relationship; past, present or future.

Eternity rings are not only for anniversaries. Many people use them as wedding bands and commonly refer to them as dress wedding bands. Far more sparkly and feminine than traditional bands, they make wonderful wedding gifts that are sure to dazzle and impress your bride. The compliment the traditional engagement ring beautifully. When paired, eternity rings can even act as a wedding band wrap, resting on either side of the engagement ring.

Eternity rings have been around for thousands of years and have withstood the test of time. The only rule for giving an eternity ring is that it must symbolize something. That is, of course, if you are giving one, not buying one for yourself!

More and more women are buying eternity rings for themselves. There are a few reasons for this. One, they want to pick it out! Two, women are making more money than they used to and can afford to buy themselves nice gifts. Third, it is not like buying yourself an engagement ring! It is totally socially acceptable to buy yourself nice jewelry. Many women simply want something classically nice to heirloom to their children.

If you are giving an eternity ring, make sure that you communicate its meaning to the recipient. Eternity rings make great heirlooms and quality should be considered when you are making a selection. When children inherit engagement rings and traditional wedding bands, they may not want to wear them. They usually store them in a jewelry box or have them made into other forms of jewelry, such as pendants for a necklace. If you want to give an heirloom gift that the recipients will be proud to wear, an eternity ring is a wonderful option.

One growing trend is to give an eternity ring when a woman has a child. They can be worn as wedding bands or right hand rings. As the woman has more children, you can give her more eternity rings. She can wear more than one on each finger and can wear them on each side of her engagement ring. This way, when you heirloom your eternity rings to your children, they each have their specific one, hopefully engraved with their names and birthdates or some other meaningful message meant only for them.

Eternity rings are often made with a full circle or half circle of diamonds. If you plan to heirloom your eternity rings, then diamonds are a classic option that is sure to never go out of style. Another consideration is each child’s birthstone. Alternating diamonds and birthstones are also classically beautiful and are sure to become a treasured possession by your children. Round stones are traditional, but different shaped stones, channeled into an eternity ring, gives it a unique look that still fits anyone’s taste.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. It traditionally is given during dating when the relationship turns more serious. When you give a promise ring, you are promising to be faithful and to love the recipient forever. Generally a promise ring is given as a precursor to an engagement ring. It symbolizes sort of a trial period before engagement, but can mean something far more romantic.

When you give a promise ring, it is up to you to come up with its true meaning. This can vary from person to person as much as relationships can vary from couple to couple. You may have helped your loved one through a personal hardship and your promise ring could symbolize your devotion towards being there when your partner needs you. It could simply be a romantic gift symbolizing the next level of your relationship. No matter what the individual meaning of the promise ring is, it is taken very seriously and should strengthen the bond between two people.

Promise rings are not necessarily meant just for women. The current trend is for the woman to also give the gift of a promise ring to a man. Men have historically been left out of the ring-receiving game until their wedding day. Now that it is much more common for men to accessorize with rings, whether it is costume jewelry, right hand rings or promise rings, the act of giving a promise ring to your male mate can make a unique and powerful impact on a man. Men appreciate being noticed and appreciated as much as women and there is no reason to leave him out of this special occasion. If he gives you a promise ring, he is no doubt proud of you and wants to spend his life with you. Return the favor and surprise him by doing the same.

Promise rings do not have to be fancy or expensive. Many people that give promise rings do it because they are ready to commit for life, but can not yet afford the engagement ring that they believe their lady deserves. When shopping for promise rings, there are a few guidelines that you should adhere to in order to adhere to the tradition.

First, the promise ring that you choose should be made of a precious metal, such as silver, gold or platinum. These types of metals will not turn, should not cause an allergic reaction, and should last for years and years. The second tradition to adhere to is that the ring be one solid circle. Adjustable rings just do not mean the same thing. A continuous circle represents the circle of life or the unending love and affection that you are aiming to embody.

It is also traditional to give someone promise rings with small stones. Birthstones are very popular choices, but you can also leave this decision up to your imagination. Rubies can represent the red fire love that you feel towards your partner. Sapphires can symbolize that you always will be true blue towards your mate. Emeralds can correspond with how your special someone makes you feel rich and prosperous, despite the fact that you may not be rich by some people’s standards.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. What types of flaws are acceptable? How do you tell if the diamond you are looking at is worth the asking price? These are a few things to consider when selecting your diamond.

Most diamonds have flaws. Very few are perfectly clear. A perfectly clear diamond, or flawless diamond, is very rare and can be extremely expensive. Diamond flaws are called inclusions. There are two types of inclusions to consider when you are shopping for a diamond. Not all inclusions are bad. In fact, some inclusions can help you identify your diamond. Inclusions are like your diamond’s fingerprint, and can help you to ensure that when you send off your diamond ring for repair or resizing, that you actually get your diamond back. It is rare for jewelers to try and replace you diamond with a fake one, but being able to identify your unique stone will give you peace of mind and keep you from getting ripped off.

Epigenetic inclusions are flaws that happen when the diamond was in production. Epigenetic flaws are usually in the form of pits, scratches, nicks, laser lines, bearding or cleavage.

A cleavage is a crack in the diamond. A cleavage can cause your diamond to break apart. Pits are small holes in the facets of the diamond. Pits and scratches can usually be polished away and do not take away much value once they are removed. Bearding refers to stress fractures. These can happen around the girdle where the prongs touch and are sometimes referred to as girdle fringes. Laser lines happen when flaws are removed with a laser and a scar is left inside of the stone. Feathers are tiny lines that look like feathers and do not hurt the stone unless they are very close to the surface.

Naturally occurring flaws are called syngenetic inclusions. Syngenetic flaws are ones that were formed as the diamond was growing. Irregular crystallization, growth lines and pinpoints are naturally occurring inclusions. These can be harmless, but can give a diamond a cloudy appearance. Occasionally the crystal clusters reach the outside surface of the diamond and can cause it to chip or break.

Any time you look at a diamond in the jewelry store or online, all inclusions should be disclosed. You should look for up close pictures of the diamonds or look at it yourself through the jewelers loop. If it is very clear and cheap, then you should be suspicious. If it is cloudy and expensive, then you may be paying too much. The best way to tell if you are getting a good price is to look at a lot of diamonds until you get a sense of which diamonds should cost more and which diamonds should cost less.

Once you have settled on a diamond, inspect it closely with a jewelers loop and map out the flaws for yourself. Tiny cracks, feathers or small black carbon flecks can help you to always identify your diamond.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. More diamonds than ever are being sold in the form of right rings. An incredible increase in the sales of right hand rings has got many people wondering. What is a right hand ring and what does it mean?

A right hand ring is one that may have diamonds or other stones, but it does not look like a wedding or engagement ring. They generally are more decorative or ornate than traditional engagement rings or wedding bands. The good thing about right hand rings is that you can buy one for yourself!

Originally, right hand rings were worn to accentuate the fact that you did not have an engagement or wedding ring on the left hand. You could give your suitor a silent hint that you loved diamond rings, but you were purposely leaving that left ring finger open to invitation. Now, everyone is buying them. They are becoming incredibly popular and have pretty much taken over the costume jewelry market. Women now want jewelry that compliments their matrimonial set. Costume jewelry just does not make the grade any more. Why cheapen that beautiful ring on your left hand by wearing something gaudy and fake on the right? Real diamonds and gold or platinum are the way to go.

Right hand rings make great gifts to give or receive. You can give a right hand ring your own meaning. Some give them as congratulatory rings. Some give them as an anniversary gift or wedding gift. Right hand rings can really show someone how special you think they are. They make wonderful promise rings or mother rings. You have so many design choices that you may find it hard to make up your mind. With this type of gift, you really can not get too luxurious. Maybe now you can buy your special lady that diamond that you could not afford back when you were dating and gave her an engagement ring. That original ring does not necessarily need to be replaced, but maybe complimented by a giant diamond right hand ring. Okay, if giant is not quite your speed, there are plenty of delicate designs to choose from.

Unlike diamond solitaires, although many right hand rings now sport big diamonds, you can find a right hand ring to fit your budget. They are widely used for engagement, but are also very commonly used for anniversary gifts, graduation rings and congratulatory rings, as with the birth of a child. If you are in the market for diamond rings, then you probably have a lot of questions about cut, carat, clarity and quality. Here we will focus on the cut of diamond that you may prefer. Diamonds come in all shapes and sizes, so the one you choose will have some personal significance. Although no two diamonds are identical, there are nine basic cuts that you can choose from.
The princess cut is the most popular today. This is a square cut diamond with added facets for fire and brilliance. Square diamonds are beautiful, but have lost out in the popularity contest with round brilliants in the past. That is why the princess cut has become so popular lately. The old style of square cut just didn’t sparkle like the round cuts did. The princess cut brings you the sparkle of the round cut in a beautiful, sophisticated square shape.
The asscher cut diamond is a square diamond with the corners cut off. This helps eliminate chipping risks. The asscher doesn’t have all of the facets of the princess cut, but does have a unique sparkle. Higher quality diamonds are generally used for the asscher cut because its design can show flaws more vividly than more brilliant cuts. The emerald cut is basically the same, but more of a rectangle shape. The emerald cut can also show flaws if the quality of the diamond is not high enough.
The cushion cut diamond is rectangular with the corners rounded. It has more facets than the emerald cut and can more effectively hide flaws. It has more sparkle and brilliance, but doesn’t show the clarity that an emerald or asscher cut can. Similar to the cushion, asscher and emerald cut is the radiant cut. This is a marvelously faceted rectangular cut. The corners are cut off and the facets are triangular like the popular round brilliant.
An oval cut is very beautiful with its smooth lines and sparkling facets. This is a good alternative for people who love round brilliants but prefer something a little more unique. Another unique shape that really sparkles is the heart shaped diamond. The pear cut and marquise cut are also popular alternatives to the traditional round brilliant. All are beautiful and have lots of facets to sparkle. Pear cut diamonds are round on one end and come to a point on the other, like a teardrop. Marquise cut diamonds are oval with a point on two ends, giving them a unique yet feminine shape.
Whatever styles of diamond rings you are considering, you’re sure to make an impression with any shape of diamond that you choose. Make shopping for diamond rings fun by educating yourself on what types of diamonds are out there before you shop. Buying diamond rings is an experience that you should feel good about. Once you’ve decided on the right one for that special someone in your life, you’re sure to win her heart.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. Ancient Egyptians are thought to be the first to make and wear eternity rings. Eternity rings are essentially a continuous circle of metal studded with stones either halfway or all the way around. Early eternity rings were meant to symbolize eternal life and love. The unending, unbroken circle of precious metal represents a never-ending circle of trust, or the circle of life. Eternity rings today symbolize an everlasting relationship of love and are commonly used for wedding or anniversary bands.
Early eternity rings featured stones that went halfway around the shank of the ring. They also further set their meaning in stone when they were fashioned to look like a snake swallowing its own tail. This snake swallowing its tail eternity ring really helped solidify the meaning of the continuous circle as the eternal symbol of love and life. Eternity rings were originally made with the stones flush mounted. This is where the stones are actually imbedded into the metal. The flush setting makes for a very comfortable wear. If the stones are too large or protrude from the sides too far, then they can be uncomfortable between your fingers.
Modern eternity rings are usually channel set for comfort and larger stones are avoided. Channel set refers to how the stones are encased by the metal only on the edges of the shank. This is not to be confused with claw set where the stones are raised above the shank and held on by prongs. Claw set is almost exclusively used for half eternity rings so that the prongs do not irritate the skin on the surrounding fingers. Modern advances in jewelry crafting have actually made full claw set eternity rings much more comfortable and popular. Channel and claw set eternity rings give a more brilliant shine to the stones used than the flush mount setting, but some still prefer the original embedded stone eternity rings.
The meaning of an eternity ring traditionally is eternal love, but it is really open for individual interpretation. Couples very often come up with their own meanings. Eternity rings are used for wedding bands and vibrantly compliment diamond solitaire engagement rings. They are becoming increasingly popular as anniversary bands or right hand rings. But, you can give an eternity ring for any occasion. The birth of a child is a very appropriate time to give an eternity ring. In this instance, it could symbolize the eternity of your new family or your never-ending love and compassion for your wife who has helped you create this new life. Their superb quality and stunning beauty ensures that they will last and last, from generation to generation. With stones encircling the ring, their style is simple and elegant, so there is no fear of eternity rings ever going out of style. They have been around since the times of the ancient Egyptians, after all. These valued possessions carry on your legacy in a beautiful meaningful way.
When you pass down eternity rings, make sure that you write down the story of the rings. Was this your wedding ring, anniversary ring, or congratulatory championship ring? Maybe you received it for the birth of your child and you wish to heirloom it to that child when you are gone. Passing down your eternity ring can be a very moving gesture. It can symbolize your eternal love for the person you leave it to. It can ensure that the story of your love for your husband or wife lives on in your family.
Make sure that you take care of your eternity ring if you wish to heirloom it. They are very well made and durable, so it doesn’t take much effort to keep them beautiful and eye-catching. Use a soft bristled toothbrush to get into tiny cracks. Use a mild detergent or jewelry cleaning solution to get the stones looking stunningly brilliant. Some people like to dry their eternity rings with a hairdryer after cleaning to ensure that no water spots are left on the stones. This also ensures that water isn’t left down inside of the band between the stones. Check your stones often to make sure that they are not getting loose. It is very unlikely that you would ever lose a stone from an eternity band since the stones are usually set inside of the band, not on prongs, but you should still check to ensure that your ring isn’t in need of repair. Just take a toothpick or other small pointed item and gently try to wiggle the stones all the way around your eternity ring. If you see any of the stones wiggle, then take your eternity ring to a jeweler.
Deciding who to heirloom your eternity ring to can be a difficult decision. Traditionally, daughters or granddaughters are the recipients. If you wish to leave yours to a son, niece or nephew, then that is a good decision as well. If there is more than one recipient, then you may ask who would like to have the eternity ring. You may find that one would much rather have your engagement ring or some other special piece that they associate with you. If you’re torn, you can always have half of the stones mounted in one ring and the other half in another. This is a very thoughtful way to heirloom your eternity ring. However you decide to heirloom your eternity rings, you’re sure to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. But what are the true meanings of eternity rings? We’ve researched it, and found out that they can mean lots of different things to different people.
Eternity rings are rings, usually made of gold, white gold, or platinum, that feature stones that encompass the outside of the ring all the way around. Some feature stones that go half-way around, while most feature stones all the way around. The stones most often used are diamonds. Eternity rings are used very often for wedding bands, but are becoming increasingly popular as anniversary gifts and symbolizations of many special moments in a couple’s life.
Wedding bands symbolize the eternal circle of love and life. They are one continuous circle of precious metal that can never be broken. Many people have their wedding bands made to fit and don’t believe in sizing them. This is simply because they don’t want the band to ever be cut. The circle must never be broken. This is one reason that eternity rings are so popular as wedding bands. They don’t only beautifully compliment a diamond engagement ring, but they are one continuous unbreakable circle. Because of diamond placement circling the ring, you can’t size it. Cutting the band could cause you to lose stones and some believe, break the eternal circle. Eternity rings must be made to be the size that you need.
As one of the strongest substances on the planet, diamonds themselves represent eternity. Diamonds can mean undying love and devotion, loyalty, fidelity, eternal friendship, unwavering partnership and commitment. They can also represent the future, promising a life of togetherness and closeness. Diamonds on eternity rings represent all of these meanings in an eternal circle, essentially magnifying their meanings, continually encompassing the finger in a never-ending circle of lasting beauty.
Some people use eternity rings to symbolize various moments in their lives. One man described why he chose an eternity ring for his bride of fifty years. He realized that each one could symbolize something important that they had shared or an adversity that they had overcome together. He wrote a beautiful poem describing what each stone meant. One was for the first time he laid eyes on her. The next was for their first kiss. Then came marriage, children, their first home, getting through the hardships that they had faced together with unwavering commitment to each other, and so on. Coming up with his own meanings made this eternity ring extremely special to his wife and surely put a smile on her face every time she saw it after that. This special ring and it’s story will most definitely become a treasured family memory and heirloom in the future.
In short, the eternity rings that you give can mean whatever you want them to. Eternity rings should always symbolize something. Whether it is marriage, the birth of a child, anniversary or just a special time in your lives, eternity rings can really solidify the moment, capturing the uniqueness and sacred bond that you share in a stunning circle of stones. Your special relationships, friendships and love can be forever symbolized in eternity rings.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. Their timeless beauty will never go out of style. When you are selecting an eternity ring for the one you love, there are a few things you should consider. First, what kind of precious metal should you select? It may be obvious if you are matching an existing engagement ring. If not, then you may need to educate yourself on the different types of metals available, their properties, and the pros and cons of each.
Gold has been the most popular choice in rings for centuries. Twenty four karat gold is pure gold. It is way too soft to use in most jewelry making. When purchasing eternity rings, you do not want the gold to be so soft that it bends easily. This can cause you to lose stones. Also, the gold surface would be so soft that it would easily be scratched up and start looking dull. Eighteen karat gold is fairly soft, but some prefer the color of eighteen karat gold to fourteen karat. Their durability is very close, but eighteen karat has a slightly darker color. Compare the two when you are shopping for eternity rings and you can decide which you might prefer. Keep in mind that the eighteen karat gold eternity rings will need to be treated with a little more care than the fourteen karat rings. They are a little bit softer and less durable. If the ring you are buying will be worn every day, then fourteen karat may be a better choice for durability.
When most people talk about gold, they are referring to yellow gold, gold’s natural color. Some people prefer white gold. White gold is mixed with other metals and can have slightly different shades of yellow in it. If the white gold eternity ring you are looking at has nickel in it, then you may want to check with the person you are buying it for and make sure that they are not allergic to nickel. Many people are and you should find out what metals are included in your white gold before you purchase it. The white gold that is the whitest is rhodium plated gold. The rhodium plating looks very nice, very shiny and very white. The plating will not chip off, but keep in mind that it can wear off over time. The white gold ring will eventually start to look more like yellow gold, and you will need to get it replated.
Platinum is the most popular choice in eternity rings today, and for good reason. It costs more, but the durability, quality and beauty of it wins hands down when it comes to precious metals. Platinum is white, like white gold, but it won’t wear down and turn yellow over time like white gold. The shine of platinum seems to be deeper and it makes diamonds really stand out with more sparkle when it is used as the setting. Eternity rings have small diamonds and a platinum band can really make each one count. The shine, sparkle and durability of color make platinum a very fine choice. Another important thing to note about platinum is that it is hypoallergenic and holds diamonds and gemstones more securely than other metals. Platinum is heavier than other metals and is sure to impress the one you love.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. If the diamonds go all the way around, then it symbolizes how your love is a continuous circle that never ends. When you give an eternity ring, you really are saying how much you cherish someone and it is like a promise that you will always feel the same way about them. Eternity rings are so popular because the recipients will remember how you feel each and every time that they look at their beautiful eternity ring.
Some people believe that each stone symbolizes something about their relationship. Come up with something romantic that each stone represents when you give the eternity ring. One could be for the day you met. The next can represent your first kiss. One diamond can represent you falling in love. One can be for your wedding day. The next one or more can represent each of your children. If you do not have children yet, or if you just want to make a statement about your life ahead, you can leave some stones to represent your future that has not happened yet. Then, as you make your memories together you can name the next stone to symbolize its importance to you as a couple.
Eternity rings make great gifts for many occasions. The birth of a child can really spark a flood of new emotions and mark a special time in a couple’s life. An eternity ring can represent this new life that you are embarking on together. Eternity rings make very beautiful wedding bands. Eternity rings compliment almost every engagement ring. The timeless beauty and simplicity of the eternity ring will ensure that you never grow tired of the style of your eternity ring. The sparkle and beauty of an eternity ring far surpasses that of traditional wedding bands.
There are two types of eternity rings to choose from. Full eternity rings have diamonds (or other stones) that go all the way around. These are very beautiful rings with the maximum amount of sparkle. They sometimes cost a little more than half eternity rings because they have to be custom fitted. You can not buy a full eternity ring and have it sized later, because of the stones going all the way around. Some people prefer the full eternity rings because they symbolize the eternal circle of love that they have for the recipient.
Half eternity rings have the stones only on top of the ring. Having exposed precious metal on the bottom of the ring makes it possible to have it sized. Another benefit of the half eternity ring is that you can put bigger stones in it. This makes for a more dazzling display of diamonds (or other stones). Some believe that half eternity rings are slightly more comfortable, but jewelers keep comfort in mind when designing both types of eternity rings, so feel free to pick the one that you are drawn to. Keep all of these things in mind when selecting the eternity ring that is right for your special someone. You are sure to have a special moment in the giving of your eternity ring, followed by a lifetime of love and memories.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings, eternity rings, platinum rings and gold rings. Like many valuable gems, emeralds have been surrounded by folklore and mysticism and believed to possess supernatural powers throughout history. This vibrantly colored gemstone has been historically thought to bestow good luck on its owner, and instill virtues such as mental clarity, wisdom and youth. Egyptians even buried emeralds with their dead under the belief that they would grant perpetual youth. The emerald was a subject of high regard, even worship, by ancient Incas and Aztecs. The belief that emeralds aid in eyesight has been examined consistently across numerous cultures over time, as has the notion that emeralds can grant insight into the future.

The emerald is a variety of Beryl, a mineral occurring in a range of colors from colorless to pink to green to red. The most widely known forms of beryl are its blue variety, aquamarine, and its green variety, the emerald. The term “emerald” is thought to stem from an Old French word that translates to “green gemstone.” A deep, vibrant green is the characteristic color of the most valued emeralds, a hue attributed to traces of chromium present in the gems. Unlike many other gems, inclusions in emeralds are tolerated as a natural feature, and vibrant, intense green color attributes more to an emerald’s value than the presence or absence of flaws within it.

Colombia is the origin of some of the most beautiful and valuable emeralds in the world. Colombian emeralds are renowned for their deep green hue absent a devaluing blue tint. A majority of the world’s emerald supply today comes from Colombia, with much of it originating in the same areas mined by ancient civilizations. Emeralds are also mined in other areas throughout the world including Brazil, Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan, and Russia, to name a few.

Emeralds are set in all styles of jewelry. A single emerald makes a beautiful solitaire ring, or multiple smaller emeralds may be set surrounding a larger stone, a popular design for diamond rings. Because of the presence of inclusions in natural emerald, cutting emeralds is challenging and requires utmost precision and skill. The emerald cut, now also a popular cut for diamonds, was created to alleviate some of the challenges associated with emerald cutting and emphasize the beauty of the stone. It is common today for emeralds used in jewelry to be treated with special oil, wax or resin to enhance their appearance.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings and other platinum and gold rings. Fashion is no exception, and the Queen’s own love for style contributed to many changes in fashion trends of the time. Jewelry of the Elizabethan era reflected in many ways the jewelry of today, though the most valuable metals and gemstones were mostly limited to the upper class or those in a position of nobility.

Necklaces were commonly worn by women of the Elizabethan age, who often wore multiple necklaces at the same time. The carcanet, a wide, collar-like necklace crafted from fine metal and jewels and often worn along with other necklaces is a piece characteristic of the era. Gold pendants were a common accessory for women later in the era, succeeding the popularity of brooches. Pearls, gold, silver, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and other precious metals and gemstones were incorporated into beautiful necklaces and other pieces of jewelry worn by the upper class. Though gemstones were fashioned into different shapes for jewelry using basic methods in this era, gemstone cutting technology and expertise was quite limited in comparison to the complex, multi-faceted gemstone cuts common today.

Another piece of jewelry common to both Elizabethan era and today is the ring. Similar to modern day practice, rings were worn to symbolize marriage, and were often crafted of gold and engraved with a message. Though rings were worn as a symbol of marriage, they were not typically worn by men, and even wedding rings were mostly limited to the upper class. Rings were sometimes worn on both the first and the second joint of the finger, not just the first as rings are most commonly seen today, and it would not be uncommon for every finger to be adorned with a ring except the middle.

Earrings experienced some popularity in the later part of the Elizabethan era. Women would have both ears pierced, while men would have only one. Earrings were typically a continuous hoop, possibly holding a pendant, as the modern day post style and hook style had yet to be invented.

The Elizabethan era spans forty five years, and no single style exemplifies it directly. In fact, Elizabethan jewelry alone is a topic that has been examined in volumes of literature. Genuine Elizabethan jewelry as well as new pieces influenced by the styles of the era are still worn today. Many jewelry styles of today owe their existence to concepts originating centuries ago during the Elizabethan era of English history.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of diamond rings and other platinum and gold rings. But even the most thoughtful boyfriends, fiancés and husbands often find themselves wrought with uncertainty when it comes to giving that special woman a special gift for the holidays she will not soon forget.

It is practically universally true that women love jewelry. Though style preferences vary greatly among women, one would be hard pressed to find a woman who truly does not appreciate beautiful necklaces, eternity rings or diamond earrings. And it is not just the value and outward beauty of jewelry that a woman loves—it is the symbolism of the piece as a gift from the man she loves; it is the thoughtfulness that led you to select the specific piece of jewelry for her; it is the love represented by the gesture.

Inherent symbolism, personal significance and of course outward beauty make jewelry the perfect gift for a man to give to the woman he loves. Giving a woman a personalized gift of jewelry involves first gaining insight into her preferences and style. If you have been with a woman for a long time, perhaps you already know what style of jewelry she likes. But you can also pick up on some clues she may be sharing without even realizing it. For instance, does she always wear silver jewelry, or does she mix it up between gold and silver? Does she prefer to wear matching necklace, earring and bracelet sets, or does she mix and match styles? Does she wear large dangling earrings, or does she prefer simple, understated pieces? By observing her jewelry over a period of at least several days, you can gain valuable insight into her preferences that can help you select the perfect gift. And you do not have to go it alone. Discussing your observations with your jewelry retailer can give you the expert perspective you need to select the perfect piece of jewelry for the lady in your life.

If you have given her jewelry as a gift in the past, you can use this experience to help determine what to give her this Christmas. If you have given her a beautiful sapphire ring in the past, and she loved it, why not give her a coordinating pair of sapphire earrings and a necklace to match?

Options abound in Christmas shopping for the woman in your life. The gift of jewelry alleviates the risk of giving an impersonal or unromantic gift. After all, just because she loves kitchen appliances and warm socks does not mean that is what she wants to receive from her beloved man on Christmas morning.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings. Jewelry incorporating a person’s birthstone is a highly personalized and cherished gift. Here we examine the birthstone associated with each month of the year based on commonly accepted modern birthstone interpretations:

January: Best recognized for their rich reddish brown color, Garnets actually span a range of colors including orange, violet, green and yellow. It is perhaps due to the deep red color common to this coveted gem that it was long associated with healing powers for blood related ailments.

February: February’s birthstone, Amethyst, gets its name from the Greek term “amethystos,” which means not drunk. Historically associated with sobriety, the amethyst is a type of quartz occurring naturally in rocks and appearing in various shades of purple.

March: March’s birthstone, the Aquamarine, has been associated with courage and happiness. With hues ranging from pastel blue to teal to deep blue, it is apparent why the Aquamarine’s name is derived from the Latin terms meaning “sea” and “water.” The bloodstone is another commonly accepted birthstone for March.

April: April boasts possibly the most desirable birthstone, the diamond. Highly regarded worldwide for its unmatched beauty, strength and historical significance, April’s birthstone is also given as a symbol of love and impending marriage today.

May: Vibrant green characterizes May’s birthstone, the emerald. Emeralds comprise the green variety of the mineral beryl, while March’s birthstone Aquamarine is beryl’s blue variety. Emeralds have historically been associated with good luck and long life and have been thought to aid in eye health.

June: The modern June birthstone is the pearl. Pearls are the only birthstones that are created by a living organism, the oyster. An oyster will secrete nacre, an iridescent, lustrous substance, onto a foreign object as a natural defense mechanism, a process that can eventually form a pearl. Today, most pearls are cultured pearls, or pearls that are created after humans introduce irritants to prompt oysters to secrete nacre in a controlled environment.

July: Though July’s birthstone, the Ruby, is associated with a deep red, the natural Ruby can range from pink to brown. The Ruby was in ancient times considered to possess magical powers and was believed to change colors to warn its owner of danger. Ruby’s vibrant color, hardness second only to diamonds and rarity make it one of the most valuable gemstones.

August: Peridot, the modern August birthstone, ranges in color from light yellow-green to bright green to olive green, depending on its iron content. The Peridot is an extremely old gem, though it has seen fluctuations in popularity over time. A mid 90s discovery of a massive Peridot deposit prompted a modern day surge in Peridot availability and popularity.

September: September’s birthstone, the sapphire, can span many colors but is most well-known for its rich blue variety.

October: The birthstone of October is the Opal, a highly regarded stone emitting a rainbow of colors. The Opal is admired for its iridescence and, unlike other gemstones, is not characterized by a crystalline structure.

November: The modern birthstone of November is Topaz. Topaz, occurring in a variety of colors but most commonly yellow, has been incorporated into striking jewelry for hundreds of years. Derived from a Sanskrit term meaning “fire,” the term Topaz was at one time used to describe any yellow gem.

December: Turquoise may be the most commonly accepted birthstone for December today, though blue topaz and tanzanite are also associated with the month of December. Like many stones, turquoise has historically been linked to desirable virtues. This non-transparent stone has been said to promote mental clarity as well as trust and kindness.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings. Some world renowned diamonds have made the journey through the hands of royalty over centuries while others have only been unearthed in recent decades. Here we examine a few of the most coveted diamonds that have ever been discovered.

-The Hope Diamond: Perhaps the most well-known diamond in the United States, the Hope diamond endured hundreds of years and passed through several owners before it was donated by Harry Winston Inc. to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958. This 45.52 carat dark grayish blue cushion antique cut diamond has long been thought to bestow upon its owners a curse of tragedy and misfortune.

-The Cullinan Diamond: The largest rough diamond ever unearthed, the original Cullinan was discovered in South Africa in 1905 and weighed an astonishing 3,106 carats. The Cullinan diamond, named after the owner of the mining company where it was discovered, was later cut into 105 diamonds, the most notable of which is the pear shaped Cullinan I, also known as the Star of Africa diamond, weighing 530.2 carats. For many years the Star of Africa was known as the largest cut diamond in the world, though in recent years this record has been surpassed by The Golden Jubilee, at 545.67 carats, and a nameless fancy black diamond weighing in at 555.55 carats.

-The Regent Diamond: Thought by many to be the most stunning diamond worldwide, the perfectly cut Regent Diamond has a history of both prestige and voracity. The Regent was originally called the Pitt after Sir Thomas Pitt, a governor who purchased the diamond in the 1700s and had it cut and polished into the cushion shaped, 140.5 carat diamond in the French Royal Treasury today. Becoming known as the Regent in 1717 when it was purchased for the French Crown, the Regent Diamond has adorned the Crown of Louis XV and the sword of Napoleon Bonaparte.

-The Centenary Diamond: Esteemed by diamond connoisseurs for its purity and color, the Centenary Diamond was discovered at the Premier Mine in July of 1986. Weighing 599.10 carats in the rough, the Centenary Diamond was carefully cut by Gabi Tolkowsky into the present day 273.85 carat modern cut flawless diamond residing since 1991 at the Tower of London.

-The Orlov (sometimes called Orloff): This uniquely shaped diamond was set in the Imperial Sceptre during the reign of Catherine the Great in the late 1700s. The shape of this bluish green tinted diamond weighing in at 189.62 carats has been widely likened to that of half of a pigeon’s egg. The distinctive shape of the Orlov leads many to believe that there exists a counterpart that has yet to be discovered.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings. Whether you are purchasing a ring from a retailer or designing a ring to be crafted by a jeweler, a number of decisions must be made in selecting the perfect diamond ring. Besides being familiar with the 4 Cs which affect the value and appearance of a diamond—cut, color, clarity and carat weight—the following considerations may also help you in your search for the perfect diamond ring:

-What diamond shape do I prefer? Perhaps the first decision in selecting a diamond ring is which diamond shape you are seeking. Diamond cutters craft diamonds in several shapes for diamond rings, some of which are round, princess, marquise, pear, and oval. The shape of a diamond determines its outward appearance, and you will likely realize a natural preference for a particular shape as you shop. Some rings have one central diamond, as in the traditional engagement ring, while others have several diamonds that may be the same or different shapes.
-What type of metal should I choose? Yellow gold, white gold, platinum—there are a number of metals that are common for diamond rings. Platinum is a popular option for engagement rings and eternity rings because of its resilience, though it comes with a higher price tag than other metals. Silver, on the other hand, is prone to corrosion and thus is not the best choice for frequently worn rings such as wedding bands and eternity rings. Discuss with your jeweler the metal that is right for you, taking into consideration its color, durability and resistance to corrosion.

-What setting style do I prefer? Something you will quickly realize when shopping for diamond rings is that diamonds are affixed to rings in a variety of ways. The way that a gem is set and held in place is referred to as its setting. Several setting styles are common for diamond rings, some of which are the bezel setting, channel setting, and prong setting. The shape and size of a diamond and the strength of the metal used may help determine the type of setting that is used in a particular ring.

Perhaps you already have in mind the type of diamond ring you are seeking, or maybe you prefer to explore all of the options until you simply discover the perfect ring. With the multitude of diamond ring styles available, having an idea of the shape, type of metal and setting style you prefer can help you in your quest for the diamond ring that best suits your taste and personality.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings. When you travel with jewelry, you want to ensure that it arrives at your destination and that it remains unharmed. The Transportation Security Administration recommends that airline passengers refrain from wearing jewelry that contains metal to expedite security checkpoints, but also recommends that you keep valuable items including jewelry with you rather than in checked baggage when you travel. Many people do not want to sacrifice having jewelry with them during travel, leading to the need for an efficient and protective way to secure jewelry in a carryon bag or purse.

One way to protect and transport jewelry conveniently is to purchase a jewelry travel case that is equipped to secure and protect the types and quantity of jewelry you will be carrying. Travel cases for jewelry are available from many sources and vary in capacity, price and design. In purchasing a travel case, be sure to take into consideration the types and amount of jewelry that will travel with you, and select a case that will accommodate your needs yet consume minimal space in your luggage.

Packing jewelry safely within your suitcase, however, does not have to involve investing in a jewelry case. You may safely and economically pack your jewelry by securing it with cardboard or heavy paper. Individual necklaces can be packed within cardboard enclosures created by first cutting cardboard rectangles that measure slightly more than twice the length of each chain. This may be accomplished by securing each necklace within two slits that have been cut at one end of each rectangle, and folding the rectangle in half to cover the chain. The cardboard enclosure can then be taped together or placed within a snug baggie that allows the chain minimal space to shift. Earrings and bracelets can be secured with cardboard or heavy paper in a similar manner. The goal is to create a sturdy enclosure that prevents necklaces from becoming entangled and protects all jewelry from harm brought on by potential compression and impact.

Keeping valuable items such as jewelry with you as you travel ensures that they will arrive with you at your destination in the improbable circumstance that your checked baggage does not. Whether you opt for the do-it-yourself approach or purchase a jewelry travel case to meet your needs, be aware that you may request a private security screening if you are traveling with large amounts of valuables and would prefer to protect your privacy.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings. In fact, the difference from one diamond ring to the next can easily be several thousand dollars. For most consumers, price is an important factor in a buying decision, so it is important to understand what you are paying for when you purchase a brilliant piece of diamond jewelry.

As with many consumer products, diamond prices paid by end users are affected by the value that is added at each level of the supply chain. Diamonds are mined from the earth in what can be expensive, elaborate mining operations, incurring an initial cost. Of course, diamonds do not emerge from the earth in the beautifully polished cuts commonly seen at jewelry retailers. After being mined, diamonds are typically cut and polished before being sent to an independent laboratory for grading. Then diamonds are placed on the market for purchase by wholesalers or diamond dealers, who in turn sell them to various retailers. Finally, diamonds are in retail stores and ready for purchase by consumers. Each stage of the supply chain adds some kind of value and incurs markup, each of which are reflected in the end price a consumer will pay for a diamond.

The cost to mine, prepare and market a diamond is not the only determinant of the end price of a piece of diamond jewelry. Also included, of course, is the complete cost from mining to market of metals and other gemstones that make up a piece of jewelry, as well as crafting of the piece itself. Diamonds are appraised and valued individually based on evaluation of the four Cs—carat, cut, clarity and color.

The price of a diamond is calculated based on some determined value per carat. That is to say that the value of a 0.5 carat diamond which is valued at $3,000 per carat would be calculated as $3,000×0.5 = $1,500. However, despite the apparent simplicity of the (price per carat x carat weight = diamond price) equation, several factors influence the determined per carat value of an individual diamond. Evaluation of a diamond’s color, clarity, and cut contribute to the determination of its per carat value, with diamonds exhibiting the most attractive combination of features being considered the most valuable and thus the most costly., the carat weight for an individual diamond is also affected by its rarity. Since a one carat diamond is much rarer than a half-carat diamond, a one carat diamond will incur a higher per carat weight than an otherwise equivalent half-carat diamond. Though tempting, it is inaccurate to assume that you can simply plug the carat weight into an equation to determine the value of a diamond. Each diamond must be individually appraised in order for a value determination to be made.

About the Author: Ian Maher is the CEO of Maliere, a leading provider of eternity rings and other diamond platinum rings and gold rings.
